Key Stage One
At the end of Key Stage 1 (Year2), teachers are required to assess each child in the areas of reading, writing, maths and science. National Curriculum assessment tests are used to support teachers’ judgements.
Judgements are made as follows:
Expected Standard – Working at the expected standard for a child at the end of Year 2
Greater Depth – Working at greater depth within the expected standard, with a strong understanding of the curriculum.

Key Stage Two
Multiplication Tables Check
Average score 21.5 for Multiplication Screening Check. The national average score is 20.6 in 2024.
There is no expected standard threshold for the MTC. The check will determine whether a pupil can fluently recall multiplication tables.
Year 6 results: End of Key Stage 2
At the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6), Standard Assessment Tests are used to assess each child in the areas of reading, maths and grammar, punctuation and spelling. The tests are marked externally.
Teacher assessments, moderated internally and externally are used to assess pupils’ written standards.
Judgements are made as follows:
Expected Standard – Working at the expected standard for a child at the end of Year 6
Higher Standard – Working at greater depth within the expected standard, with a strong understanding of the curriculum.
Pre-Key-Stage Standard- for pupils who are working below the standard of national curriculum assessments and are engaged in subject-specific study, or who have not completed the relevant programme of study
