Mathematics

As a key skill, it is important that the pupils become numerate and are able to build confidence in mathematical skills. Learning key number facts with automaticity at the beginning of a child’s learning journey will enable them to be successful later on in life.

We teach using a sequential curriculum to enable pupils to build new knowledge upon their previous learning.

In EYFS Reception year, pupils use the NCETM Mastering Number scheme to learn the core concepts of number. In Year 1 and 2, pupils continue to learn using the NCETM Mastering Number scheme as well as the Curriculum Prioritisation documents and Oak Academy.

In Years 3 – 6, pupils learn via the NCETM Curriculum Prioritisation document as well as the Oak Academy scheme. Pupils also participate in a daily multiplication quiz to improve their automatic recall of the multiplication facts.

Home Learning includes the use of Mathletics, and certificates are awarded weekly during celebration assembly.

When children leave Year 6, our pupils will be able to confidently use mathematical skills and terminology and be fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
