Y5 and Y6 - Transitioning to Secondary School Assembly

Year 5 and Year 6 pupils welcomed Mr Bannister from Drapers' Academy into school this week. 

Mr Bannister, Assistant Vice Principal at Drapers' Academy, visited Drapers' Pyrgo Priory School to speak to pupils about their upcoming transition to secondary school. The pupils were very engaged and well-behaved during the session, asking lots of insightful questions.

The children received information on the next stages of their educational journey and how to best prepare for secondary school. Mr Bannister also spoke about the huge range of opportunitites on offer at Drapers' Academy and the benefits of being part of the Drapers' Multi-Academy Trust with links to Queen Mary University of London and the Drapers' Company. 

At Drapers' Pyrgo Priory School, we start preparations for secondary school in Year 5. Our pupils begin to foster self-reliance and we empower them to take charge of their own learning. They master how to efficiently manage their time, organise their learning, conduct research, assess their work, and identify their next steps. This approach equips them with the skills needed to thrive in secondary school, where the demands for independent learning and effective time management are significantly greater.

In addition, pupils in Year 6 take on a variety of leadership roles, assisting with a range of tasks around the school, including Prefects, Head Boy and Girl and a whole host of other responsibilities. As well as making a valuable contribution to the school community, these roles help the children to develop commitment, organisational skills and a sense of responsibility that will stand them in good stead for secondary school.
