Year 4 Children are visited by the Ancient Greeks!
Our Year 4 pupils took part in a Greek Workshop which saw them visited by an ancient Greek warrior. The Greek warrior covered a range of topics from Greek legends and Alexander the Great, to Greek culture and the birth of democracy.
Many of the children dressed up in traditional Greek clothes. They learnt about some Ancient Greek games, including Petteia - a Greek strategy game, and a mathematical puzzle called ‘Stomachion’ devised by Archimedes.
Before lunch, the pupils took part in a Greek quiz where they learnt lots of fun Greek facts. Did you know Ancient Greeks used stones for toilet paper?
After lunch the Greek warrior demonstrated his weapons and armour. Pupils acted out the battle of Gaugamela between Alexander the Great and King Darius (spoiler: Alexander the Great won).
To finish the day, all pupil’s took part in a mini Olympic games.
Our Greek warrior Gary, from Portals to the Past said: “I have had an excellent day with the Year 4 pupils at Drapers’ Pyrgo. The children engaged so well with all the activities all day and were an absolute joy to be with. I would like to thank the staff and children for a most enjoyable day”.
