Drapers' Pyrgo Priory School is celebrating a major milestone following the successful launch of its Pyrgo Priory Football Academy (PPFA) and the hosting of its first-ever inter-school football tournament on 23rd March.

The event brought together Year 5 and Year 6 girls and boys from across the local Havering community for a day of friendly yet competitive football. Schools including Nelmes Primary School, Broadford Primary School, Drapers’ Brookside Junior School, Drapers’ Maylands Primary School and Drapers’ Pyrgo Priory took part, creating an atmosphere full of energy, teamwork and community spirit.

Throughout the tournament, pupils showed impressive skill, determination and fair play, with teamwork shining through in every match. In a proud moment for the host school, both the Drapers’ Pyrgo Priory boys’ and girls’ teams emerged victorious, lifting the winning trophies. The achievement highlights the pupils’ dedication and the positive impact of consistent training and preparation.

The football academy is led by coach Mr Bradley Chapman, who brings over 12 years of experience as a Teaching Assistant, alongside a passion for the sport, helping to create an environment where pupils can thrive, build confidence and enjoy being part of a team. The children receive regular training sessions every morning from Monday to Thursday, alongside high-quality coaching in PE lessons

Mr Chapman said:
“This community tournament represents the beginning of something truly special. The commitment shown by the pupils has been outstanding, and we are incredibly proud of all the children who took part and the way they represented their schools. We look forward to making next year’s tournament even bigger.”

Adding to the excitement, Drapers’ Pyrgo Priory pupils taking part in the football academy have received brand-new, high-quality football kits, generously provided through sponsorship - giving them an even greater sense of pride as they compete.

Looking ahead, the school aims to grow the PPFA and expand the tournament in future years, welcoming even more schools and continuing to provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills, build friendships and create lasting memories through sport.
